What is intelligent driving?
Intelligent driving includes unmanned driving and automatic driving. It needs to be clear that the ultimate goal and form of intelligent driving development is unmanned driving, while automatic driving is divided into levels. Currently, the society of automotive engineers is generally recognized worldwide. (SAE) classification of the level of autonomous driving. In the description of self-driving cars, the six levels of SAE are non-automation, assisted driving, semi-automation, conditional automation, high automation and full automation.
L0 is called "non-automation" and is the stage where the driver has absolute control.
L1 is called "assisted driving". In the L1 stage, the system has at most "partial control" at the same time, either controlling the steering or controlling the accelerator/brake. When an emergency occurs, the driver needs to be ready to take over control immediately. And humans need to monitor the surrounding environment.
L2 is called "semi-autonomous driving". Different from L1, the control right transferred to the system in the L2 stage is changed from "partial" to "full". That is to say, in a normal driving environment, the driver can transfer both lateral and longitudinal control rights to the system at the same time. And humans need to monitor the surrounding environment.
L3 is called "conditional automation", which means that the system completes most of the driving operations, and only when an emergency occurs, the driver gives an appropriate response depending on the situation. At this time, the system takes over from humans and monitors the surrounding environment.
L4 is called "high automation", which refers to the stage where the automatic driving system can complete all driving operations without the driver making a "response". However, at this time the system only supports some driving modes and cannot be adapted to all scenarios.
L5 is called "full automation". The main difference from L0, L1, L2, L3, and L4 is that the system can support all driving modes. During this phase, the driver will no longer be allowed to be the controlling subject.
